11 Years and Still Wanting More

Last year we made plans to get away for our big 10 year anniversary (a small milestone but kind of big) BUT plans changed quickly when we had to take our almost 6 month old to the ER as she had gotten very sick and I didn't want to leave her.  So we decided that even tho this year is not a "big" milestone, we still need to get away, even if it was for just one night.  Guys!!  This man I married rocks it every time we plan to do something.  He surprises me and knocks it out of the park!  We went to a cabin in West Virginia. Can I just say, that to have an evening and a night where my littles aren't running around and needing something from me every 3 minutes was amazing!!  To have the undivided attention from my husband was amazing!!  To enjoy a jacuzzi bath was amazing!!  To be able to have time to read with my hot coffee in the morning was amazing!!  I think Moms feel guilty writing stuff like this (I'm fighting the guilt right now) because they don't want to communicate that something might be better than these wonderful beautiful kids she brought into this world, and its not that time away is better... different and I believe needful, but definitely not better!! It was wonderful to get away, to actually sleep thru the night without having to get up and tend to the kids, to have uninterrupted conversation with Bryan, and to sleep in (can I get an AMEN).  As our night away is coming to a close, I'm ready to see my kids and hear about the adventures away from Mom and Dad, leaving this place with memories and hopes of coming back.  It is unrealistic to say that everyone needs to get away every month or give a time frame, but I do believe that it is VERY healthy for parents to get time away from their kids, time for each other!! Whatever that looks like for you, weekly dates, weekend get aways, trips, hikes, picnics, afternoons... whatever it takes!!  Because when it is all said and done, your kids leave, and what is left is what you poured back into your marriage.

So foggy
